Midnight:Midnight

An inbetween place for thoughts and visual diaries

Finally bought the Ryan O’Reilly Band’s  new album from the Toucan Bar in Soho. It’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for!

‘Boats Against The Current’ is my favourite track so far…and this is a nice live acoustic session of it. I first caught these boys busking in Portobello Road and have been obsessed with them ever since. Give it a listen, it’s the soothing kind of folk music that makes you just want to lie down and absorb it.

Saw The Antlers last night in Shepherd’s Bush. Incredible performance.
Big thumbs up to the man at the front who stood with his arms stretched out wide screaming “What a band! What a FUCKING BAND!” during the encores.
I think he spoke for all of us.

I don’t think this will ever NOT be my favourite film.

Eulogy To A Hell Of A Dame

some dogs who sleep At night
must dream of bones
and I remember your bones
in flesh
and best
in that dark green dress
and those high-heeled bright
black shoes,
you always cursed when you drank,
your hair coming down you
wanted to explode out of
what was holding you:
rotten memories of a
rotten
past, and
you finally got
out
by dying,
leaving me with the
rotten
present;
you’ve been dead
28 years
yet I remember you
better than any of
the rest;
you were the only one
who understood
the futility of the
arrangement of
life;
all the others were only
displeased with
trivial segments,
carped
nonsensically about
nonsense;
Jane, you were
killed by
knowing too much.
here’s a drink
to your bones
that
this dog
still
dreams about.

‘The Becoming’

I posted a Kate Tempest video last week and then was lucky enough to bump into her in a bar New York. I watched her bag while she went to the loo and she took a swig of my beer for the road.

It turned out we were both heading down to the same open mic night so I was lucky enough to see her perform.

I’d like to say we shared a stage but in reality she was on third, and I was on third….from last.

She’s an incredible performer and has the ability to snatch you and completely engulf you in her words for those 4 minutes. True escapism.

So here is another video.

Elena Tonra aka. Daughter - ‘Peter’

“I know you think you’re still a child but I couldn’t give a fuck. You’re 21”

Definitely my flavour of the month. She’s a great lyricist as well which helps make the heart melt :)

I’m feeling ill and packing for NY and this is calming me and bringing my fever down. Just lovely!

Kate Tempest with her poem Pennies recorded in her house.

Because she was in my dream last night. And because she is generally astounding.
